Abstract:
In this study, we wanted to explore the experiences and personal narratives of five non-binary individuals. We did so using the theoretical framework of Personal Construct Psychology and focused on the relational and subjective aspects of gendered identities. We used semi-structured interviews and thematic analysis to explore the participants' gender constructions. In particular, we focused on the relationship between the construction of oneself as a non-binary person and the relational environment, as well as on discrimination and the role of activism in self-narrative. The research offers a multifaceted understanding of the development and maintenance of non-binary identities, highlighting the importance of an inclusive and context-sensitive approach to gender in psychological practice and theory.
