Abstract:
In modern society, adolescents and young adults seem to be a generation struggling with the complexity and unpredictability of events. In clinical contexts, their narratives and behaviours often reveal a profound sense of disorientation or a lack of meaning. This raises important questions: when adolescents observe adults, what do they see? And how do adults develop their understanding of young people? Drawing on the theoretical framework of Personal Construct Psychology (Kelly, 1955), this paper explores the reciprocal constructs that shape intergenerational relationships, highlighting both the limitations and the possibilities that arise in these encounters. In doing so, we aim to encourage self-reflexivity and sociality—particularly among adults, whose constructs often define the context in which younger generations attempt to make sense of the world.
